Pat Nagle made 23 saves and the host Toledo Walleye scored three times in the first period on the way to shutting out the Mallards 3-0.

Double Dip
The Mallards suffered consecutive losses last week.

Splitsville
Wednesday’s loss left the Mallards with a split of back-to-back games against Tulsa. The Mallards defeated the Oilers 5-4 on October 14.

Blanked
The Mallards Saturday night were shut out for the first time since January 6 when Mark Visentin made 25 saves in a 4-0 Cincinnati Cyclones victory in Moline.

Familiar Faces
The Mallards have played two games against both Toledo and Tulsa and will this weekend face the Idaho Steelheads twice.

Slow Starts
The Mallards have allowed the first goal no later than three minutes and 49 seconds into each of their first four games.

Home Cooking
The Mallards play their next three games on home ice and will have played six of their first seven games at home by the time they host the Indy Fuel November 3.

On the Road
Saturday’s setback in Toledo was the Mallards’ first road game of the season.

Shooting Gallery
The Mallards have been outshot in each of their first four games. They allowed at least 40 shots in each of their two games last week. Wednesday against Tulsa, the Mallards took 34 shots and allowed 43. Both totals were team single game highs for the young season. The Mallards also both launched and allowed more shots in one period Wednesday than they have in any period during their other three outings. The Oilers piled up 22 shots on goal in the first period Wednesday. The Mallards then registered 16 shots in the second period.

Sam Warning (3-1-4) scored in each of the Mallards’ first three games.

Justin Kovacs (2-2-4) recorded points in each of the Mallards’ first three games.

First
Chris Leibinger (0-1-1) recorded his first career regular season point by picking up an assist Wednesday against Tulsa. Leibinger did collect two assists in last spring’s Kelly Cup playoffs after joining the Mallards from Michigan Tech for the final five games of the regular season.

Debuts
Kevin Kirisits made his Mallard debut Wednesday against Tulsa. Willie Raskob, who was acquired from Worcester earlier in the week, made his debut for the Mallards Saturday in Toledo.

Scooter
Scott “Scooter” McLay has joined the Mallards as the team’s new athletic trainer and made his debut behind the Mallards’ bench Saturday in Toledo. McLay, an Ontario native, arrives after spending the last two seasons with the Alaska Aces. In 2016, McLay was named the ECHL’s athletic trainer of the year. He previously acted as athletic trainer for the Ontario Hockey League’s Erie Otters, the hockey team at Lake Superior State University- his alma mater- and the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers. It was while with the Wranglers that McLay served as trainer at the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game.

Between the Pipes
C.J. Motte made a team season high 38 saves Wednesday against Tulsa. Rookie Ivan Kulbakov nearly matched that total Saturday when he stopped 37 Toledo shots.

Milestones
Kovacs has 98 career points…Tristan King has 93 career goals…Garrett Klotz has 972 career penalty minutes

Special Teams
The Mallards went 0-for-15 on the power play and 10-for-13 on the penalty kill over their first four games.

Head to Head
The Mallards and Steelheads this weekend meet for the first time ever. This weekend’s games will also complete the season series between the two clubs.
 
Ins and Outs
Goaltender Alex Sakellaropoulos signed a standard player contract with the Mallards Thursday…Forward Keegan Kolesar was reassigned from the Mallards to Chicago (AHL) by Vegas (NHL) Thursday…Goaltender C.J. Motte signed a professional tryout agreement with Chicago (AHL) Thursday… The Mallards acquired defenseman Willie Raskob from the Worcester Railers in exchange for cash considerations Tuesday.
